The Junior League of Santa Barbara (JLSB) will present its Woman of the Year award to Megan Chanda at the 13th Annual JLSB Gala, Nov. 10 at Rosewood Miramar Beach, 1759 S. Jameson Lane, Montecito.
The Woman of the Year honor is given to a woman whose achievements promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women and improve the Santa Barbara community through effective action and leadership.
Chanda is a senior deputy district attorney with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office. She is currently assigned to a four-woman team that comprises the Vulnerable Victim Unit in the Santa Barbara office.
The gala, themed Glitz, Glamour, and Seaside Grandeur, will feature updates on JLSB’s work in the Santa Barbara and surrounding communities, including a reflection of key contributions over its 99-year history, and highlight the overall vision for the league’s centennial year.
JLSB will also celebrate its Sustainer of the Year at the gala.
There will be opportunities throughout the night to give back and join the mission of the JLSB. All funds raised support the Junior League of Santa Barbara and its programs to support and develop the potential of women and prevent the exploitation of at-risk women and girls in our community.
Chanda and her team prosecute the most serious cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault, crimes against children, and elder abuse.
She also is responsible for prosecuting all human trafficking cases for the southern half of the county, and is a member of the Human Trafficking Task Force, which is comprised of local and federal law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies.
For the past five years, Chanda has been dedicated to training law enforcement officers regarding the investigation of domestic violence cases and cases involving Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC).
Gala attendees will enjoy an elegant, festive evening with a silent auction and wine pull. Participants are urged to dress to the nines. Black tie attire is preferred.
The VIP Changemaker Early Admission ticket, at $450, features 5 p.m. early entry, complimentary cocktail hour with open bar, and early access to the silent auction.
A general admission ticket entry, costing $350, begins at 6 p.m. and includes a welcome cocktail reception, silent auction and presentation, as well as dancing and a wine pull.
