Teammates Melia Haller and Lizzie Goss finished 1-2, leading the Santa Barbara High girls golf team to a 234-303 win over Bishop Diego in a season-opening girls golf match at par-37 Santa Barbara Golf Club on Monday.

Haller shot a 40, including a birdie on No. 2, to earn medalist honors. Goss was two strokes back at 42.

After the match, Goss and teammate Ella Williams traveled to Buena to play in the Dons’ girls soccer opener.

“It was so refreshing to get back on the course and compete,” said Santa Barbara coach Ryan Throop. “It’s been almost 18 months (since the last girls golf season) and there were nerves. For several girls, this was their first high school match and they persevered through the round.”

Amy Mancinelli was the low scorer for Bishop Diego with a 57
