The Santa Maria Recreation & Parks Department invites the community to a memorial sign dedication honoring the life and legacy of James “Jim” Glines, a longtime Santa Maria leader and advocate.
The Jim Glines Sign Dedication will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5 at Community Bank of Santa Maria, 2739 Santa Maria Way. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
A lifelong Santa Maria resident, Glines was a respected community banker, philanthropist, and civic leader.
He co-founded the Community Bank of Santa Maria in 2001 and was known for his approachable leadership and commitment to supporting local businesses and residents.
Beyond banking, Glines was recognized as a championship auctioneer, earning the title of California State Champion Auctioneer in 2001 and raising millions of dollars for local charities and youth programs.
He was deeply involved with the Santa Maria Elks Lodge, served in leadership roles with the Santa Barbara County Fair Board, and was a passionate storyteller and advocate for Santa Maria Valley history.
Often referred to as “Mr. Santa Maria,” Glines was remembered for his generosity and love for his hometown.
Following his passing at age 82, the community honored his legacy through efforts such as the James “Jim” Glines Memorial Scholarship, established to support local students.
Community members are encouraged to attend and join the city in honoring a man whose life and service left a lasting impact on Santa Maria.
