Santa Barbara Soccer Club is excited to announce that Michael Hannon will join as our new Executive Director, starting July 1, 2026.

Before joining SBSC, Michael served as Executive and Technical Director for 1974 Newark FC. In that role, he was instrumental in driving membership growth, strengthening staff mentorship, and refining player advancement pathways.

His extensive background spans every tier of the game, from collegiate coaching at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels to developing talent within the Swansea City A.F.C. academy in Wales and scouting for Oakland Roots SC.

Michael’s core focus will be:

  • Communication and trust. Michael will prioritize strengthening communication and transparency throughout the club to ensure players, families, coaches, and staff feel informed and connected.
  • Player pathways. Whether your child is taking their first touches in our youth academy or competing for a college or professional future, there will be a clear, connected path within this club.
  • Club identity and brand. When you see the SBSC crest, it should mean something. We will build a consistent identity and a culture that players are proud to represent.
  • Access and facilities. Michael will work alongside club leadership and community partners to explore opportunities that support the club’s long-term growth and improve the experience for our players and families.

” This is an exciting new chapter for our club,” SBSC president and board of directors Sheralyn Bates said. “SBSC has been built on the dedication of players, families, and coaches who care deeply about this community — and that foundation is something we protect.

“Michael Hannon is the kind of leader who listens, builds trust, and gets things done. SBSC’s best days are ahead, and we’re ready! Thanks to our committed membership & community, SBSC has expanded significantly and is primed for its next phase of growth and development.”
