The Santa Barbara Public Library will host Plaza Palooza, the grand opening of Michael Towbes Library Plaza, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Central Library, 40 E. Anapamu St.

The newly renovated public space is designed to expand library services, events, and programming outdoors while offering a gathering spot for people to learn and connect.

The Library Plaza, which blends historic architecture with modern enhancements, was inspired by the original 1917 Central Library and 1930 Faulkner Memorial Art Gallery.

For a complete look at the Library Plaza’s rich history and recent upgrades, visit Library History.

At the grand opening, guests will enjoy dance and music performances, a ribbon cutting, short films in the Faulkner Gallery, food trucks, and library tours at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The plaza project was made possible by a partnership between the city of Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation, a nonprofit that supports the long-term sustainability of the Santa Barbara Public Library.

Up first on events at Library Plaza will be Mercado Raíces y Sueños, a pop-up art market featuring wares from local artists.

Plaza Palooza is made possible with support from California Humanities, a nonprofit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
