Carpinteria’s Miles Souza won a pitchers’ duel, giving up only two hits and striking out 11, and the Warriors came away with a 2-1 Citrus Coast League win over Nordhoff in Ojai on Tuesday.
The Warriors got their two runs in the first inning. Issac Castillo, who notched two of Carpinteria’s five hits, picked up the game-winning RBI and Hunter Garcia hit a ground ball that drove in Souza from third base.
Mike Weston went the distance for the Rangers, who got their run in the second inning.
“Miles and catcher Diego Nieves really worked through some early struggles,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “They got better as the game went on. The defense was efficient toward the end which made it impossible to make a pitching change.
“Nordhoff is much improved, so it will take a really good effort to take one from them on Thursday.”
Carpinteria is now 4-1 in CCL play and 5-2 overall. Nordhoff is 0-6 and 0-8. The two teams play at Calderwood Field at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
