The Santa Barbara High boys soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Ventura in a Channel League match on Tuesday.

“We made three mistakes at the back and Ventura capitalized on all three,” said coach Ricardo Alcaraz. “Those were the only clear opportunities Ventura had.”

Jesus Miranda scored for the Dons off an assist from Pietro Nascente.

“Pietro has been logging in lots of minutes and he is building good experience as a freshman,” said Alcaraz.

The Dons fell to 0-2-1 in Channel League and 1-2-2 overall.

“We play well but we keep making errors and other teams are capitalizing on them,” said Alcaraz. We are going to continue to minimize these mistakes and compete every game.”

The Dons are back in action Thursday at Rio Mesa before playing host to San Marcos on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Ventura Girls 3, Santa Barbara 0

Santa Barbara High couldn’t capitalize on some early chances and lost the Channel League girls soccer match to the Cougars.

“The girls started out playing well and created the first three chances of the game, but we could not get on the end of those crosses,” said coach Willie Sims. “The backline did great today but were very unlucky on a corner kick and a loose ball that Ventura capitalized on.”

Sims praised the play of defender Tania Vallecillo.
