A man who allegedly committed a strong-armed robbery at a business ended up in custody despite trying to hide from Santa Barbara Police Department officers Friday. 

Shortly after 7 p.m., the Santa Barbara Police Combined Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from an employee reporting a strong-armed robbery at a business in the area of 1000 Coast Village Road, Acting Lt. Benjamin Ahrens said.

One employee reported being assaulted but wasn’t injured, Ahrens added. 

A strong-armed robbery typically involves using force or threat to take items without using a deadly weapon.

Multiple officers responded to the scene and began searching for the suspect.  

Officers located a person who matched the detailed description of the suspect near Coast Village Circle and Coast Village Road. 

“The suspect attempted to hide in an underground pathway but was apprehended with the assistance of a police canine, Aherns said.

The suspect, Raider Damron, 28, of Montecito, was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of robbery and resisting arrest, Ahrens said.

He remained in county jail custody Saturday night with bail set at $100,000.
