A man died Thursday due to a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in southeast Lompoc, police said.
At approximately 11:20 a.m. Lompoc police officers and firefighters responded to the 1100 block of East Ocean Avenue due to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle, police Sgt. Scott Morgan said.
Upon arrival, officers and firefighters discovered the motorcycle’s rider had sustained severe injuries, Morgan added.
Emergency personnel provided medical care for the man, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.
A passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene, was not injured, and is cooperating with investigators, Morgan added Thursday afternoon.
At this time, it does not appear drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision, he said.
East Ocean Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions to facilitate the investigation and ensure public safety, Morgan added. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes and to expect delays.
The identity of the man who died is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
