A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon after being pursued by Santa Barbara Police officers and crashing on the city’s Eastside, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

At about 12:30 p.m., an officer observed the motorcyclist committing a vehicle code violation while driving east on Canon Perdido Street, Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale told Noozhawk.

The rider, whose name was not released, failed to yield, and the officer terminated the pursuit after about six blocks because of safety concerns, Ragsdale said.

“The motorcycle continued, colliding with another vehicle at East Montecito Street and North Milpas Street,” Ragsdale said.

The rider was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Details on his condition were not available, Ragsdale said, but his injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The incident remained under investigation, Ragsdale said, adding that he did not have information about whether the motorcyclist was cited or arrested.
