A motorcyclist died Saturday after driving off a cliff on Jalama Road, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The motorcycle rider fell about 100 feet off the side of the road, about 2 miles from Highway 1, county fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

Firefighters from the Santa Barbara County and Lompoc Fire departments and California Highway Patrol officers along with Santa Barbara Search and Rescue team members responded to the scene of the crash reported at 12:20 p.m. Saturday.

Emergency personnel arrived to find a bystander attempting to administer CPR to the injured rider who was pronounced dead at the scene, Safechuck said.

Members of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau also responded to the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the crash were under investigation by CHP officers from the Buellton area.

The name of the motorcyclist will be released after notification of family members.
