A motorcyclist who was critically injured Sunday afternoon in a collision near Los Olivos subsequently died of his injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at about 2:40 p.m. as Robert Stoik, 53, from Freedom, California, near Santa Cruz, was riding a 2021 Aprilia Tuono motorcycle eastbound on Highway 154 at Foxen Canyon Road, said CHP Officer Michael Griffith.
A 2021 Ford Mustang driven by Scott Pigman, 57, of Vista, California, was turning left from southbound Foxen Canyon Road when it collided with the motorcycle, which was traveling approximately 55 mph, Griffith said.
Stoik suffered major injuries when he was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway, Griffith said.
A bystander performed CPR on Stoik at the scene before he was taken by American Medical Response ambulance to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
After the initial collision, the Mustang crashed into a 2018 Lexus, driven by Robert Altavilla, 79, of Los Olivos, that was waiting at the stop sign on northbound Foxen Canyon Road, Griffith said.
No other injuries were reported, Griffith said, adding that alcohol and drugs were determined not to be a factor in the crash.
Pigman was not cited, Griffith said, but noted that the investigation was continuing.
