A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon in a collision with a U.S Postal Service vehicle in Hope Ranch, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly after 4:45 p.m. to the crash on Marina Drive near Alisa Lane, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
The motorcyclist, a 45-year-old Santa Barbara man, was declared dead at the scene.
His name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The collision occurred as the mail truck, driven by George Turner, 33, of Santa Barbara, was westbound on Marina Drive, according to CHP Officer Jonathan Gutierrez.
The eastbound Yamaha motorcycle slammed into the right side of the postal vehicle as it was turning left onto Alisa Lane, Gutierrez said.
The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway.
Turner was uninjured, Safechuck said.
Marina Drive was shut down for about two hours while law enforcement officers investigated the crash.
Drugs or alcohol are not believe to be factors in the collision, which remained under investigation, Gutierrez said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the CHP at 805-967-1234.
