A motorcyclist was killed in a Lompoc vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The Lompoc Fire Department, American Medical Response and California Highway Patrol personnel were called to West Ocean Avenue and South Bailey Avenue at 4:10 p.m. for a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck, county fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

AMR staff declared the motorcycle rider — a 53-year-old Lompoc man — dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries, Safechuck said.

His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The driver of the truck — Katherine S. Hanberg, 83, of Lompoc — was uninjured.

The California Highway Patrol reported that Hanberg was stopped on South Bailey Avenue when “for reasons still under investigation” she pulled out directly into the path of the motorcyclist, who was headed east on Ocean Avenue.

The CHP was investigating the collision, and had West Ocean Avenue closed between Floradale Avenue and V Street for a time.

County firefighters were initially called to the scene but later cancelled, Safechuck noted.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the CHP at 805.691.6160.
