A motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon in a collision with a pickup truck in western Goleta.
The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Cathedral Oaks Road at King Daniel Lane.
The westbound Dodge pickup apparently turned left toward King Daniel Lane and into the path of a Yamaha motorcycle headed east, according to Raquel Zick, a spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.
“The collision caused the motorcycle to catch fire, which then spread to a nearby tree,” Zick said.
The first units on the scene reported that CPR was in progress on the motorcyclist, according to emergency radio traffic.
The rider was declared dead at the scene, Zick said, adding that the pickup truck driver, whose name was not released, remained on the scene and was cooperative with investigators.
The motorcyclist’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
County firefighters were able to quickly douse the fire caused by the crash.
Cathedral Oaks Road was shut down for several hours between Placer and Evergreen drives after the crash.
The collision remained under investigation by the sheriff’s department.
Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Senior Deputy Jeff Farmer at 805.961.7514 or by email at jlf3077@sbsheriff.org.
