A park host’s motorhome at Elings Park in Santa Barbara was severely damaged by fire Saturday night, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

The fire was reported at about 9:45 p.m. on the 1500 block of West Valerio Street, according to fire Battalion Chief Robert Mercado.

The first crews on scene found a large motorhome ablaze, with flames coming through the roof, Mercado said.

Firefighters weren’t able to make access, so forced entry into the motorhome to attack the flames.

No one was inside the vehicle, Mercado said, but firefighters did find a dead cat inside, which appeared to have succumbed to smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported to firefighters or civilians, he added.

An investigator was dispatched to the scene to search for the cause of the blaze.

The motorhome appeared to be a total loss, Mercado said.
