With the 82nd Annual Santa Maria Elks Rodeo coming up soon, the entry period for the popular kids’ event, the Mutton Bustin’ contest, will close at 5 p.m. Friday, April 4.
The CoastHills Credit Union Mutton Bustin’ contest gives local kids have a chance to try their hand at some rodeo action, riding a mutton (sheep) in the rodeo arena.
The event is open to all children ages 5-7, who weigh less than 60 pounds.
Each contestant selected will have a chance to perform in one of the rodeo events held during the four days of the rodeo, Thursday, May 29-Sunday, June 1. A custom-made silver belt buckle will be presented to the daily winner.
To enter, register online at elksrec.com. Sixty names will be drawn from the entries received by the deadline to enter. Those drawn will be notified Wednesday, April 9.
There is no charge to enter the drawing. Children whose names are drawn will be required to pay a $50 registration fee; show proof of age; proof of medical insurance; complete a registration form; and complete a weigh-in at the Elks Rodeo Office, 2325 Skyway Drive, Ste. H.
