Sansum Clinic, now part of Sutter Health, has achieved a 5-star Elite Status rating for the 11th year from America’s Physician Groups (APG). The designation is the APG’s highest ranking as part of its 2023 Standards of Excellence (SOE) survey program.

“This is well-earned recognition and proof of our commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare and value to our community,” said Dr. Kurt N. Ransohoff, Sansum Clinic CEO/chief medical officer, and former chair of the APG Board of Directors.

“We are  excited to build on this success alongside our new partner, Sutter Health. We look forward to enacting our joint strategy to expand local access to care in a way that keeps our patients and caregivers at the center of everything we do,” he said.

APG is the country’s leading association for physician organizations practicing coordinated care. It represents 360 medical groups, independent practice associations, and integrated healthcare systems.

APG member groups treat more than 30 percent of all enrollees in Medicare Advantage, are among the nation’s leading participants in the Medicare Shared Savings Program, and work with Medicaid managed care organizations to serve millions of Medicaid patients.

The SOE program is an annual, comprehensive survey administered by APG that evaluates the coordinated care models and the value-based care infrastructure of APG’s physician group members.

The 70 physician groups which earned this coveted 2023 Elite Status designation did so as a result of their performance in delivering risk-based, coordinated care. APG measured the groups’ performance in the below five publicly-reported areas.

To receive Elite Status, a physician group must receive five-star ratings defined by rigorous, peer-defined benchmarks:

Population health management
Health information technology
Accountability and transparency
Patient-centered care
Advanced primary care

APG’s mission is to help its physician groups improve the quality and value of healthcare by driving down cost and improving the health of the population. Its members are committed to responsible payment models that make them accountable for both cost and quality.
