As an older adult, you may be noticing that your home no longer fits. Perhaps you’re ready to remodel for the future, downsize, live closer to family, or move into a senior community.
You may not think a real estate agent can help, but a certain kind can: Certified Senior Housing Professionals. These agents are trained to help older adults navigate housing transitions.
“My expertise goes beyond traditional real estate services, incorporating a holistic approach to senior transitions,” said Terri Dimond, Santa Barbara’s only Certified Senior Housing Professional.
Dimond offers housing guidance, selling and buying support, downsizing and decluttering assistance, move management and transition services, and advocacy and emotional support.
“I use a senior-centered approach that prioritizes dignity, independence, and informed decision-making,” she said. “This approach makes transitions smoother and less stressful for older adults and their loved ones.”
Terri Dimond’s certification is unique in that it requires a lot to ensure agents are prepared to help.
“Earning the CSHP designation requires an in-depth course requiring 60 to 80 hours of initial training to understand how to communicate with seniors, with a special emphasis on their physical and emotional needs,” she said. “There is also ongoing education, reading, and training, along with two conferences a year to further education and ideas.”
Because of that, Dimond can help older adults make choices that align with financial, physical, and emotional needs.
“I conduct a personalized consultation to understand the senior’s health, mobility, and lifestyle preferences,” she said. “We also explore different housing options — aging in place, downsizing, independent living, assisted living.”
Additionally, Dimond offers free monthly seminars to the community. Here are upcoming seminars you can attend:
