Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies and SWAT teams members took up positions Thursday afternoon outside a residence on Camino Cascada in the eastern Goleta Valley.

As a result, the Goleta Union School District’s nearby Mountain View School after-school program was put on “hold” status, sheriff’s spokesperson Raquel Zick said.

Zick said there was “no direct threat to the school,” but the hold was in place “for added safety.”

Zick did not provide any details about the incident, which was centered on Camino Cascada, a short street with about 14 houses north of Cathedral Oaks Road that ends in a cul-de-sac.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Zick reported that the incident had ended and deputies were clearing the scene.

“This investigation remains ongoing, and we will share additional information when it does not jeopardize the investigation,” she said in a posting on X.

Camino Cascada was shut down at Cathedral Oaks Road, and the public was asked to avoid the area while the operation was happening.

Law enforcement cleared pedestrians from the area and the residents of at least one home nearby, neighbors and members of a construction crew told a Noozhawk reporter on scene.

The operation included the sheriff’s SWAT team, an armored vehicle, and a K-9 team, and reportedly involved an attempt to locate and take a suspect into custody.

Deputies were at the same location on Wednesday monitoring the home and looking for someone, according to emergency radio traffic.

Additional information was not immediately available.
