New players in the starting lineup made an immediate impact for the Santa Barbara High boys volleyball team in a sweep over visiting Newbury Park on Wednesday night at J.R. Richards Gym. The scores were 25-18, 25-16, 25-20.
Sophomore Chase Holdren started at setter and dished out 17 assists to go with four digs and two service aces.
“I was really impressed with his setting success in our first match,” said coach Chad Arneson.
Another new player to make an impact was 6-foot-6 outside hitter Raglan Kear, who had five kills, one block and a service ace in his debut.
Starting libero Jameson Savellano picked up six digs “and made some nice saves throughout the match,” said Arneson. Dana Whitney passed a 2.50 average out of 3.
Returning starters Will Harman and Mikey Denver played well at the net. Harman led the Dons with six kills on the outside and Denver had four kills and three blocks in the middle.
The Dons were scheduled to play host to Mira Costa on Friday, but the match has been postponed to Wednesday, March 1 due to a flood-watch warning.
