Bishop Diego won its fourth straight baseball game, beating Channel Islands, 6-4, in the Southern California Invitational on Saturday.
Hamilton Finefrock held the Raiders to one run on three hits and struck out eight through five innings to pick up his second win.
At the plate, the senior went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
The big blow came in the top of the fourth when Finefrock was intentionally walked to load the bases for junior middle infielder Nico Sanchez. With two outs, Sanchez hit a sharp line-drive single to score two runs.
“You love to see a guy cash in and make the other team pay when they intentional walk the guy in front of you,” said Bishop coach Nick Katzenstein, “It’s a respect thing, and Nico didn’t let it phase him and came up with the clutch hit.”
Sanchez went 2-4 and freshman Isaac Veal was 2-3 on the day.
Channel Islands fought back and scored three in the bottom of the seventh.
“They had the tying run at second with two out when we went to Jackson Haskell to close the game out and pick up his first save of the season,” said Katzenstein,
