Freshman Nicole Buist swept her three singles sets in her high school debut, but it wasn’t enough for the Santa Barbara High girls tennis team as it fell short against Archer School, 10-8, in a season-opening match.

“Nicole Buist debuted with a very solid performance, winning all three sets,” said coach Danny Echt. “In the opening set versus the Archer No. 1, Nicole showed resilience coming back from a bit of a shaky start.  Nicole found her rhythm after a slow start in the first set and stayed on her game for the rest of the day by hitting through her ground strokes confidently.”

No. 2 player Caitlyn Buist won two sets in tiebreakers.

“Caitlyn recovered well after being down 3-5 in her first match to win 11-9 in the tiebreaker.  It was great to see Caitlyn figure out how to problem solve against a tricky number two opponent,” said Echt.

The Dons travel to Arroyo Grande on Thursday.
