People in the Santa Barbara vicinity are invited to join millions of Americans across the country Saturday, Oct. 18 in a nationwide day of nonviolent protest at the second No Kings Day of Action.

There are currently more than 2,000 events registered nationwide, with new events being added daily. The No Kings event in Santa Barbara will begin with a rally at noon Saturday, Oct. 18 at Alameda Park, 1400 Santa Barbara St., Santa Barbara.

The rally will be followed by a march to De la Guerra Plaza. More details on the rally and march will follow. Those planning to attend are advised to arrive early, as a large crowd is anticipated, organizers said.

“As President Trump continues to pretend he’s a dictator, we are standing up again to push back against his hateful, authoritarian actions,” said Larry Behrendt, a member of Indivisible Santa Barbara’s Steering Committee.

“Our peaceful day of action is going to bring together local residents from all walks of life who share a simple message: We don’t do kings in America,” he said.

On June 14, more than five million people across 50 states joined No Kings in the largest single-day protest yet against Trump’s authoritarianism.

The Oct. 18 day of action is the next step in this growing movement, channeling that energy into yet another coordinated, peaceful mobilization, according to organizer Indivisible Santa Barbara.

“We’re excited to join with other groups organizing the No Kings peaceful protests across the country including ACLU, American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, 50501, Human Rights Campaign, League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, National Nurses United, Public Citizen and SEIU, among others, Indivisible Santa Barbara said.
