To showcase our support as a sponsor of the event, Remembrances – Ballet + Tango Show, Noozhawk spoke with Alejandra Folguera, Executive Director at Nomad Tango to learn more about their event.

Question: What is the name and date of your event?

Answer: Noches de Tango at SOhO – Remembrances: A Ballet + Tango Show – On Sunday November 10

Q: What is the mission, goal, and/or theme of this occasion?

A: Nomad Tango & Rodney Gustafson of State Street Ballet will present “Remembrances – Tango & Ballet, and a Tribute.” This is a special showcase to celebrate the diversity of dance in our community and to pay a salute to the life and career of Rodney Gustafson, founder and artistic director of State Street Ballet for the last 30 years.

The performance will be on Sunday, November 10, 7 p.m. (dinner optional at 6 p.m.) at Soho, downtown Santa Barbara.

Q: Have you held this event before?

A: No. This is a one-day-only event.

Q: Tell us some more details about your celebration?

A: This event features the classic elegance of ballet together with the passion of tango to create a unique expression of love, longing and gratefulness.
The show opens with a Pas de Deux choreographed by Gustafson to Ravel’s Bolero. This is a fitting piece to celebrate Rodney’s stellar career.

Moving to the tango part of the evening, Alejandra Armenti, Daniel Juarez, Valentin Juarez and other invited artists will showcase the evening. Armenti and Juarez have been lifetime dance partners since their youth. Their immensely talented son is currently studying dance with the prestigious LINES Ballet in San Francisco. Their show was conceived in Buenos Aires and has been presented last in San Francisco’s Mission Theatre.

Dance and Music performance with milonga (tango party) will occur afterwards.

Tickets are $35 -$55 cover charge. Dinner is optional for $35 ticket level.
VIP tickets with front row seating next to the dancing floor are $55 and require dinner.

Q: Who is sponsoring your event, and why is their support important?

A: The event is sponsored by Nomad Tango, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organizaton.
Nomad Tango receives funding from the City of Goleta, the Towbes Foundation, generous private donors, and a holds a grant with Noozhawk that makes this ad campaign possible.

Q: Do you work with an Event Planner? If not, who are the key people who make it all happen?

A: We plan, produce, organize, and promote the events ourselves. The team is mainly composed of Alejandra Folguera and Liliana Hensel. People from the tango community volunteer to make the event run smoothly.

Q: Does your organization have any other upcoming events this year?

A: We have a Four day Tango Intensive for tango dancers.
We don’t have any more shows this year.

Q: What are you planning as a post-event follow up?

A: We typically send an email thanking our attendees and requesting feedback through a brief survey.

We hire professional photographers and make the pictures available through our website.
