Flooding and minor rock slides caused some road closures in Santa Barbara County Thursday, as a winter storm drenched the region.
Highway 246 was closed overnight at Buellton, until 9 a.m. Friday, according to Caltrans, and a lane of northbound Highway 101 was closed for flooding in Montecito, at Olive Mill Road, according to Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol.
Highway 1 was closed at Solomon Road, near Orcutt, due to flooding, according to the CHP, and roadway flooding was reported in many other areas.
Drivers should always turn around when they encounter flooded areas, not attempt to drive through them.
“A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars and just 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks. It is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters,” the National Weather Service says. “Turn around, don’t drown.”
A three-vehicle collision shortly before noon, with one vehicle overturned, shut down Calle Real at La Patera Lane in Goleta. Details on injuries were not immediately available.
