A windy weekend is in the forecast for parts of Santa Barbara County.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for 3 p.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. Sunday, with expected winds of 30-40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph.

The strongest winds are expected overnight for the Gaviota Coast, Montecito hills, San Marcos Pass, Figueroa Mountain and the Santa Ynez Mountains, the NWS said.

Winds could blow down trees and power lines, and widespread power outages are possible, according to the NWS.

A wind advisory is in effect for other parts of the county during the same time period, with winds of 15-25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph.

Southern California Edison and PG&E were not considering any public safety power shutoffs for Santa Barbara County as of Friday afternoon.

The NWS also issued a high surf advisory through 9 a.m. Monday for west-facing beaches.

Large breaking waves of 10-15 feet and dangerous rip currents are expected.

“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” a NWS spokesperson wrote in the advisory.

Some minor coastal flooding is possible as well, and is most likely during evening high tides on 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the NWS said.
