The high school girls golf season teed off Monday with the annual Pirate Invitational at the Alisal River Course in Solvang.

The tournament, hosted by Santa Ynez High, has been held since 1999, the first year girls golf was recognized as a CIF sport. The tournament wasn’t played last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oak Park’s No. 1 team of Charissa Shang and Derica Chiu won the two-player, 18-hole best-ball competition with a 67. Shang won the individual title with a 2-under par 70 and Catherine Rao of Oaks Christian was second at 72.

Oaks Christian (Catherine Rao and Eden Tan) took second place as team in a card-off with Arroyo Grande (Bella Gunsayan, Emily Webb). after both finished at 72. Westlake (Jennifer Liu, Megan Wang) was fourth at 76.

Locally, Dos Pueblos (Camille Robinson, Chelsi Ramirez) finished with a best-ball score of 86. The Chargers’ No. 2 team (Victoria Chen, Marisa Ortiz) shot an 88. St. Joseph’s No. 1 team (Kaitlyn. Nunez, Annie Heybl) also shot an 86 and the Knight’s No. 2 duo (Macie Taylor, Bella Aldridge) had an 88.

Santa Ynez (Mackenzie Phelan, Emily Ruiz) shot a 91; San Marcos No. 1 (Sophia Torrey, Stella Ashamalia) carded a 99 and the Royals’ No. 2 (Riley O’Brien, Evelina Erickson) had a 102; Santa Barbara (Ella Sales, Jasmine Zukor) combined for a 108 and Lompoc (Pattie Matzie, Halee Sager) shot 110.

Chen and Ashamalia won the closet-to-the-pin contests.
