Our beloved Mother and Grandmother received her angel wings on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

Olivia A. Segura was born and raised in Santa Barbara, graduated Santa Barbara High School, Santa Barbara Junior High, and Franklin Elementary.

She worked for years at Applied Magnetics, and followed them to San Jose, California, for a short time. She returned to Santa Barbara to begin working at Medical Pathways, then moved on to Santa Barbara Bank & Trust.

Olivia had two children, Roberto Refugio Segura and Sarita Josefina Segura.

She is survived by her daughter Sarita Segura; granddaughter Kristina Segura-Hall; sisters Gilda Branuelas, Leticia Orozco, and Delia Rangel (Jose); as well as many nephews and nieces and family in Texas.

Olivia in her free time loved arts and crafts. She loved Halloween, especially when it came time to her nieces/nephews Halloween makeup. During the holidays Olivia loved to paint ornaments, and create wreaths for her home and others. That was always a special time for her.

She loved taking her granddaughter, many nieces and nephews around Santa Barbara in her 76 Honda Civic looking at the holiday lights. She enjoyed watching movies with her daughter and taking her family on annual Disney trips, keeping the tradition alive that her parents started.

You could always find her cheering on her granddaughter Kristianna whether at the Dons games or dancing during Fiesta. In Olivia’s last few years you could find her on her porch watching Bishop Diego baseball. If she was lucky she would have a baseball in her hand, too.

One of my fondest memories of my grandmother is that you could always hear her coming by just the sounds of her keys and bracelets, and would always leave a smell of patchouli behind.

Olivia loved a family barbecue in the summer with a nice cold beer, and sitting chatting with family and friends; or you could find her talking a walk to the corner with her nephews to enjoy the view.

I feel so incredibly blessed that God chose her to be my Mom, and what a powerful influence she will continue to be in our lives.

Olivia is proceeded in death by her parents Sarah Guzman and Gustavo Ponce, son Roberto Refugio Segura, and granddaughter Mariela.

We would especially like to thank her angels at Assisted Home Health and Hospice. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to nurses and physical therapy staff. And all of the angels at Sarah House. Thank you for making my Mom’s journey home so loving and peaceful.

Funeral services will be June 9. Rosary is at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 227 Nopal St., Santa Barbara, followed by funeral mass at 10 a.m. and burial at Calvary Cemetery, 199 N. Hope Ave.
