Sophomore Sydney Steele scored an unassisted golden goal in overtime to lift the 17th-ranked Dos Pueblos girls lacrosse team to a 7-6 overtime win over San Marcos on Tuesday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.

The win secures a playoff spot and a likely No. 1 seed for the Chargers, the defending Division 2 champions. They are 7-0 in league and 7-0 and 13-2 overall.

Junior Olivia Geyling of the Chargers reached a milestone in the victory, scoring the 100th goal of her three-year career. Geyling scored three goals in the game. No. 100 came at 12:49 of the first half.

“The home crowd absolutely went bananas,” San Marcos coach Paul Ramsey said. “Geyling is the first Dos Pueblos player to reach the hundred-goal plateau in the five-year history of the program.”

Demi Robitaille scored a game-high four goals for San Marcos, which went on a three-goal run to open the second half and take a 6-4 lead.

Dos Pueblos battled back and tied the score at 6-6 to send the game into overtime.

“Both defenses and both goalies played outstanding.” said Ramsey.  “Goals were hard to come by in this one.”

Said DP assistant Jess Delgadillo: “It was definitely an exciting game to watch and both teams fought extremely hard all the way through. Though the excitement got the best of everyone at times, we were able to relax and hold onto the ball in overtime which ultimately led to our win.”

The Chargers travel to Thacher to wrap up the regular season on Thursday.  San Marcos hosts Santa Barbara on Friday in a 4: p.m. game at Warkentin Stadium.
