A man was killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 north of Buellton, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
At about 6:15 a.m., authorities received a report of a minivan that had run off the southbound highway and overturned into a creek just south of Highway 154, said fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
The driver — a 76-year-old Concord man — was declared dead at the scene, according to CHP Officer Michael Griffith.
The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
Griffith said it’s unknown when the crash occurred, or why the Toyota Sienna left the roadway. The wreckage was discovered by a passing motorist, who called 9-1-1.
The crash remained under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Anyone with information about it is asked to contact the CHP’s Buellton office at 805.688.5551
With the rainy conditions, Safechuck urged motorists to slow down and use extra caution while driving.
