A project to replace the San Jose Creek Bridge on State Route 217 will result in a full overnight closure in both directions between Hollister Avenue and Sandspit Road, 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 30.
Westbound travelers will be able to detour via Hollister Avenue, while those headed east will detour via Sandspit Road.
The closures are necessary to allow for the installation of pre-cast girders for the new bridge, according to Caltrans.
The eastbound SR 217 onramp at Sandspit Road remains closed for the duration of the project.
Travelers exiting Santa Barbara Airport can access Fairview Avenue and Hollister Avenue to reach US 101. Additional electronic message boards have been activated to assist airport visitors.
The bicycle lane will remain open during the full overnight closures. Travelers should be aware of bicycle riders in this construction area.
Contractor for the $26 million project is MCM. Construction, Inc. of North Highlands, California. The project is expected to be complete in spring 2026.
