UCSB Arts & Lectures will present Owls, 7 p.m. Friday, April 11 at UCSB’s Hahn Hall.
Translating folk, minimalism, Baroque and new music into their distinctive instrumentation, the quartet will perform a wide-ranging program of works that display their inverted approach to the quartet repertoire.

Owls, which has been called “a dream group” by The New York Times for their original, visceral performances that defy expectations, released its debut album “Rare Birds” on March 14.
Owls quartet members are Alexi Kenney, violin; Ayane Kozasa, viola; Gabriel Cabezas, cello; and Paul Wiancko, cello.
Kenney was a featured soloist in June 2024 at the Ojai Music Festival. Cabezas performs with yMusic and premiered Gabriella Smith’s cello concerto Lost Coast with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel in 2023; Kosaza and Paul Wiancko are also members of the Kronos Quartet.
The program includes:
Chick Corea: “Children’s Song No. 12”
Paul Wiancko: “Vox Petra”
Franghiz Ali-Zadeh: “Rəqs”
François Couperin: “Les Barricades Mystérieuses”
Trollstilt (Monica Mugan and Dan Trueman): “Ricercar”
Paul Wiancko: “When the Night”
Terry Riley: “Good Medicine”
Tickets are $47.50, general public; $10, UCSB students with current student ID.
