The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau on Tuesday released the name of the man who died in a Highway 101 crash in Santa Barbara over the weekend.

Emanuel Aragon, 24, of Oxnard was killed in the crash, which was reported at 6:44 a.m. Saturday on northbound Highway 101 near the Castillo Street onramp.
The California Highway Patrol reported foggy conditions in the area at the time. The silver sedan Aragon was driving overturned and landed near bushes on the shoulder of the highway.
Aragon was ejected from the vehicle onto the center lane, Santa Barbara City Fire Department Battalion Chief Brandon Paige said, and was declared dead at the scene.
Two other vehicles in the area collided, and their occupants had minor injuries, but they refused medical treatment.
The CHP closed northbound highway lanes for several hours after the fatal crash and diverted vehicles onto Castillo Street, causing heavy traffic downtown.
“The investigation is ongoing however, drugs or alcohol are suspected to be a factor,” CHP Officer Jonathan Gutierrez said.
He released additional details about the crash investigation on Tuesday.
Aragon was driving northbound and lost control of the Acura TL sedan for an unknown reason, “and veered off the east road edge,” Gutierrez said.
The sedan hit a tree on the shoulder of the highway and overturned.
Aragon’s family has created a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral and memorial expenses, and it had raised nearly $12,000 as of Tuesday afternoon.
“Emanuel was loved deeply by those who knew him. He had a kind heart, a warm spirit, and brought light into our lives,” his brother Abel Aragon wrote on the page.
