Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner trains will not operate this weekend between San Luis Obispo and San Diego while crews wrap up “critical” infrastructure projects, according to the Pacific Surfliner website.

Those projects include track rehab in Ventura County; beam movement in Orange County; and bluff stabilization, signal work and capacity enhancements in San Diego.

“The work is occurring concurrently in the various locations to reduce the number of future track closures and minimize the overall impact to passengers while making critical infrastructure improvements,” officials said on the Pacific Surfliner website.

The stop in service means the trains will not drop off or pick up passengers at Santa Barbara and Goleta stations, which are along the SLO-to-San Diego route.

Amtrak’s Connection Bus routes — which typically fill in train schedule gaps and connect with other routes — will still be in operation, but ” any regularly scheduled train connections to the buses will not be available,” per the Pacific Surfliner Website.

Any customers who had reservations for the Pacific Surfliner this weekend can switch their reservation to another date or receive a refund from Amtrak, the organization said in an email sent out last week.

Train service will resume Monday, March 9.
