The Board of Trustees of The Knox School of Santa Barbara has appointed Paul Hauser as its new director, effective Jan. 6.

“Following an extensive search, Paul was chosen by the board for his deep understanding of and unwavering dedication to gifted education,” the school said. “Under his leadership, the school looks forward to embarking on an exciting new chapter as it celebrates its 13th year.”

Hauser brings some 15 years of experience as an educator, visionary, leader, mentor and researcher. At both the Nueva School and San Francisco University High School in Northern California, Hauser earned the admiration of colleagues and students, Knox School said.

“Paul understands that we are here for the kids, and this ethos permeates every aspect of his work.” said Liza Raynal, head of the Upper School at Nueva.

“We are thrilled to welcome Paul to Knox,” said Renee Delphin-Rodriguez, Board of Trustees president. “His experience and expertise align seamlessly with our mission: to create a stimulating and nurturing environment that respects and compassionately supports the social and emotional needs of gifted learners alongside an engaging and challenging curriculum.”

With regard to his new post, Hauser said, “I’m honored and moved to be joining the spirited Knox community where I feel a meaningful connection to the essential role that the school plays in the lives of our students and the broader Santa Barbara community.

“Driven by my commitment to the mission, I’m eager to usher in this next chapter with a bold and balanced approach to our continued evolution and long-term sustainability,” he said.

A fourth-generation educator from Williamsburg, Virginia, Hauser earned a bachelor of science in biology and biochemistry from the University of Virginia and a doctorate in metabolic and nutritional biology from the UC Berkeley.

Hauser and his family moved to Santa Barbara two years ago when his wife Alex Lockett accepted the role as head of school at Cate School in Carpinteria..
