Drivers are advised that temporary delays will occur during the daytime on Hidden Pines Way due to the city of Santa Maria’s Pavement Repairs Project, Friday, Feb. 28 through the week of March 10 (weather permitting).
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if traveling between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Hidden Pines Way or on Railroad Avenue through the traffic circle.
Street segments that are part of the pavement repairs include:
- Traffic circle at Hidden Pines Way and Railroad Avenue (full closure)
- Hidden Pines Way from Railroad Avenue to Tree Line Drive
- Hidden Pines Way from Tree Line Drive to Lexington Avenue/Boxwood Street
- Hidden Pines Way from Lexington Avenue/Boxwood Street to Central Park Drive
- Hidden Pines Way from Central Park Drive to Ebony Street
- Hidden Pines Way from Ebony Street to Preisker Lane
The contractor will post construction notices to residents and businesses along affected streets with the dates, informing when parking and access to streets will be prohibited.
The project includes removal and replacement of old and failed asphalt paving; removal of existing traffic striping; grinding the edges of the existing pavement; placement of hot mix asphalt overlay, then re-establishment of traffic striping.
The city has contracted V. Lopez Jr & Sons to perform the work funded by Measure A, Gas Tax, and SB-1 Gas Tax dollars.
Having safe, well-maintained roads is a priority for the city. As one of its Smart City, Safe City tools, the Department of Public Works tracks the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) to assess the condition of streets.
Based on available funds, including tax revenue from gas purchases, staff conduct annual assessments and develop road projects.
City staff recommends drivers obey all temporary construction signs and reduce driving speeds in construction areas.
