A pedestrian struck by a vehicle Tuesday night in north Santa Maria died from his injuries, according to police Sgt. Shane Armstrong.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Santa Maria police officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at the intersection of North Broadway and Orchard Street, Armstrong added.
“Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the southbound lanes of Broadway,” he said.
Santa Maria firefighters and American Medical Response personnel also were dispatched to the scene.
An AMR ambulance transported the pedestrian, who was critically injured, to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.
A short time later, police officers learned the person had died from his injuries.
The vehicle’s driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with officers, Armstrong said.
Preliminary findings indicate that neither alcohol nor drugs were contributing factors, he added.
Authorities will release the name of the victim after the family is notified.
Members of the department’s Traffic Bureau were investigating the incident.
