A 96-year-old pedestrian died Monday night after being struck by a vehicle in the Lompoc Valley.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., personnel from the Lompoc Fire Department and Police Department responded to the 2000 block of North H Street for a report of a vehicle that had hit a pedestrian, Sgt. Scott Morgan said Tuesday morning.
The pedestrian reportedly was struck by at least one vehicle, a white Chevrolet sedan, according to emergency dispatch reports.
Emergency crews administered aid to the pedestrian who was transported to Lompoc Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Morgan said.
The name of the pedestrian will be released after family members have been notified of his death.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, Morgan said.
“The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Lompoc Police Department,” Morgan added.
Due to the investigation, law enforcement officers asked either Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies or California Highway Patrol officers to assist with traffic control by closing the southbound lanes of H Street near the Wye intersection at the north end of Lompoc for a short time Monday.
Additional information was not immediately available.
