A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and critically injured Friday night on North La Cumbre Road in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched at about 9:40 to La Cumbre Road near State Street, where they found a male victim with major injuries, fire Battalion Chief Robert Mercado told Noozhawk.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Details on his condition were not available.

“It appears at this time that the pedestrian was walking in the roadway when a vehicle struck them, causing serious injury,” said Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale of the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Driving under the influence does not appear to be a factor in this collision, Ragsdale said, adding that the driver — whose name was not released — was cooperative during the investigation.

The crash was under investigation by the Santa Barbara Police Deparment.
