A Solvang man was killed late Thursday night when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 246 near the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Robert Miller, 69, was wearing dark clothing as he attempted to make his way across the highway just west of Casino Drive at midnight, Sgt. Charmaine Fajardo said.
At the same time, Robert Lamb, 71, of Camarillo was driving westbound at about 40 mph in a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup, Fajardo said.
Miller ran directly in front of the pickup, Fajardo said, and was struck by the right front of the vehicle.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, and Miller was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, Fajardo said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Buellton CHP office at 805.688.5551.
