A pedestrian was critically injured Monday night when he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross State Street in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
The collision occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on State Street at Broadmoor Plaza, fire Capt. Jon Turner told Noozhawk.
The pedestrian was crossing State Street toward the mountains when he was hit by a sedan that witnesses said was traveling eastbound at 40 to 45 mph, Turner said.
The impact propelled the pedestrian into the middle of the intersection.
The man, whose name was not available, suffered major injuries and was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Details on his condition were not available.
Information was not available as to whether the driver was cited or arrested.
The crash remained under investigation by the Santa Barbara Police Department.
