A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train in Montecito on Saturday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident occurred at about 12:25 p.m. on the railroad tracks near Fernald Point in eastern Montecito, sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick told Noozhawk.

The victim, reportedly a woman, was declared dead at the scene.

The victim’s name was not available pending notification of relatives.

The train involved was a northbound Coast Starlight, which was being delayed into the Santa Barbara station.

Additional details were not immediately available.
