Pierre Haobsh, who was convicted of the 2016 triple murders of the Han family near Goleta, appeared in Santa Barbara County Superior Court on Thursday afternoon to discuss his request for a new counsel — which Judge Brian Hill ultimately denied.
Sentencing for Haobsh, 32, was originally scheduled for Jan. 24 but was delayed until after Hoabsh’s request was addressed.
Haobsh also made it clear that he wanted to request a new trial if he were appointed new defense attorneys.
With Hill’s decision, public defenders Christine Voss and Michael Hanley will remain on the case, which will move forward with sentencing scheduled for Feb. 28.
Haobsh was convicted in a bench trial last November of murdering Santa Barbara Herb Clinic founder Dr. Weidong “Henry” Han, 57; his wife, Huijie “Jennie” Yu, 29; and their 5-year-old daughter, Emily — who were all found slain and wrapped in plastic wrap in their garage on Greenhill Way near Goleta on March 23, 2016.
Haobsh is being held in custody at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail without bail, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 28 for sentencing.
