The Pioneer Valley Ag Department held its 5th Annual PV FFA 5K to promote and celebrate National FFA Week.

More than 100 student runners, walkers, bicyclists (ag and non ag) completed the route that looped around the school and continued into the surrounding neighborhood on Feb. 17.

Several parents, younger siblings, staff members and even a few dogs also joined the fun.

Student helpers stood with posters throughout the route to guide and cheer on runners.

“The helpers had a great time cheering on their classmates and teachers, and race participants had fun challenging themselves to try something new and support our Pioneer Valley FFA Chapter,’’ said ag teacher Marcie Guerra.

“It is always great to see our agriculture students challenge themselves and get out of their comfort zone. It was a great event,” she said.

“This is my third time running the FFA 5k and it never gets old,” said Ben Ortiz, a Pioneer Valley senior. “The staff and members who help run the event are amazing and have great energy. I would love to run this event again if I got the chance to.”

This year, the Pioneer Valley Panthers opened the race to the Santa Barbara FFA Section and attracted numerous Santa Maria High School FFA members, to mark the largest turn out so far.
