Pioneer Valley High School’s Center Stage Theatre Company will be representing California at the International Thespians Festival in Indiana, June 22-27.
The students clinched the honor recently after competing at the California State Thespian Festival in the Solo Musical, Duet Musical and Chapter Select Play one-act categories.
The cast of “21 Chump Street” won first place in the Chapter Select area, earning the right to represent the state.
Students Bloom Carrera and Mariah Escobar received superior rankings for their solo performances and will compete in the next level as well.
“This is such a huge achievement for our theater department and our school,” said PVHS theater teacher Selyn Barrette Harwin. “The students and I are incredibly honored to be representing our area at the international level.
“I am so incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication, and I am excited for them to be performing at the largest theater festival in the nation.”
“It was such an incredible experience to have been able to perform this show with my closest friends,” Escobar said. “The moment our troupe number got called we shared a beautiful moment with tears and laughter.
“We can’t wait to go to Indiana and perform this show for people from around the country, and we are honored to represent the state of California.”
“Having the opportunity to travel to the beautiful Pomona College with so many theater lovers was such a unique experience,” said Nicholas Davis. “Every day we learned something new, expanded our performance skills, introduced ourselves to new friends, and had a lot of fun.
“We are truly blessed to have been able to go, and we look forward to taking our show to Internationals and meeting theater lovers across the world.”
