Santa Barbara police officers arrested a Santa Barbara woman Saturday on suspicion of vandalizing multiple cars, assault, and threatening someone.
Police said they responded to the area of El Camino De La Luz and Oliver Road to a report of someone throwing items at vehicles.
Officers reportedly arrived at the scene at 12:55 p.m. and said they saw a woman, identified as 28-year-old Chelsea Haffeman, leaving the area while holding a belt in each hand.
Police Cmdr. Christopher Payne said she did not comply with officers’ orders and threatened them with the belts. Officers used a Taser-like conducted energy device on the woman, “but it was ineffective,” Payne said Monday.
The incident is still under investigation, but Payne said it is believed to be a “neighborly dispute.”
Haffeman ran into her nearby residence and did not surrender to officers. Investigators determined that she had threatened to harm another person before the alleged vandalism, according to police.
Officers returned to the Elise Way residence that evening around 6:30 p.m. with an arrest warrant and took her into custody, Payne said.
She was reportedly booked into jail on suspicion of assault likely to produce great bodily injury, criminal threats, and vandalism.
