Three Santa Barbara County police departments and their community partners will hold National Night Out gatherings on Tuesday, hoping to strengthen the relationships between law enforcement and the people they serve.

National Night Out invites residents to interact with police officers, firefighters and other first responders and learn more about countywide resources. The gatherings will also feature free activities such as music and games, and food trucks as well as other local vendors.

The Santa Barbara Police Department will gather at Spencer Adams Lot, 1235 Chapala St., 5-7 p.m.; the Lompoc Police Department at 515 W. College Ave., also 5-7 p.m.; and the Santa Maria Police Department at 501 S. McClelland St., 5:30-8 p.m. (The Santa Maria event was previously held at the Fairpark.)

In Lompoc, a limited number of free hot dogs will also be available, provided by Floriano’s and Grocery Outlet, as well as chips courtesy of Foursquare Church, and water.

In Santa Barbara, organizers have scheduled face painting, a free school supply giveaway, the Gamez on Wheelz Video Game Truck, the SB Bubble Guy and beyond.

The Santa Barbara gathering is hosted in collaboration with several other groups, including the Public Library and the City Fire Department, among others.

The department is “committed to building trust through meaningful community engagement and believes that strong partnerships between residents and public safety professionals help create a safer, more connected community,” a Santa Barbara Police spokesperson said in an announcement about the event.
