An investigation was underway Thursday night after a man was found fatally injured in Chase Palm Park along the Santa Barbara Waterfront, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Police dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call shortly before 7 p.m. reporting an unresponsive man in the park on the inland side of the 300 block of East Cabrillo Boulevard, Lt. Antonio Montojo said.

“Officers arrived and rendered aid until medical personnel took over,” Montojo said. “The man was transported to Cottage Hospital, where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.”

The man’s name was not released.

The scene was cordoned off, and detectives were actively investigating the incident, Montojo said, adding that the public was asked to avoid the area.

“We are very early into the investigation, and will release additional information once it becomes available,” Police Chief Kelly Gordon told Noozhawk.
