On Friday morning, Santa Barbara High School staff was looking into an on-campus incident involving several students. During their investigation, school staff found that an involved student was in possession of a weapon. School staff was able to safely isolate the student and retrieve the weapon.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., members of the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to Santa Barbara High School to assist school staff with the investigation.

During the investigation it was learned that a second student may be in possession of a weapon.

As a precautionary measure, the school administration placed the school into “hold” status. Officers arrived, and they determined that the second student was not in possession of a weapon and there was no longer a threat to the campus, students, or staff. At that time, the school lifted the “hold” status.

As of this time, the incident appears to be isolated to the involved students and there is no indication of any other safety concerns on campus.

There is a criminal investigation being handled by the Santa Barbara Police Department. That investigation is still ongoing.
